SPACE
Who are we?
SPACE is designed specifically for young people who have experienced one adult hurting another adult in their home (often called domestic abuse). It focuses on:
-
Ensuring young people know they are not the only one to have experienced hurting at home.
-
Giving time for young people to be themselves, to have fun and to try out new things.
-
Providing opportunities for young people to work through their experiences if they want to.
To be referred to the service the young people must be aged 9-16 and living or going to school in Bedford Borough.
What do we do?
SPACE runs mini youth clubs known as 'planets' that take place over a fortnight at various locations in Kempston. There are up to 10 young people and two or three staff members in each group. Every planet is given a budget each term which can be spent on workshops, meals or equipment. The young people also have access to sports facilities, a music room and a creative space.
