Respite care - Foxgloves

Referral via Children with Disabilities Team required to access provision.

Foxgloves is a large Victorian house located on the north side of Bedford within easy reach of local community facilities, the town centre and bus/ train station. Foxgloves is also in walking distance of local shops and a large supermarket. They  have their own mini bus to support activities in the wider community.

Foxgloves has 3 large bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms; 3 other bedrooms that are all on the ground floor, with washing facilities. All bedrooms are close to the many bathrooms around the house. The house has a dining room, sensory rooms, two lounges, one main kitchen and a smaller kitchen for general use. There is an Annexe which is set up specifically for those young people who have sensory perception difficulties which can result in high anxiety and behaviours that can be challenging 

There are lots of in house activities such as: TV / DVD's, large interactive computer, Nintendo wii, books, arts and crafts and a computer suite. The building is set within a large mature garden which has swings, climbing frame, race track and trampoline.

Foxgloves Aims:

• To provide planned short breaks for up to 6 young people with learning disabilities including autism and/or challenging behaviours aged between 8 and 18 years, at any one time.
• To assist the young people with support to develop optimum independence and positive self esteem in a safe, stimulating environment, and including access to social and leisure opportunities.
• To create a warm, safe and welcoming environment that is set up for the specific sensory needs of the young people staying with us.
• To provide an environment that is free from discrimination and which respects the young persons rights and individuality.
• To ensure that all the staff team offer a positive and caring attitude, and that they are appropriately trained and qualified in all areas as necessary to the needs of the service and young people.
