Deaf and Hearing Impairment Team
The Deaf and Hearing Impairment Team are a specialist service providing support across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire. We work with people of all ages who are profoundly Deaf or have an acquired hearing loss.
People are offered an assessment of their hearing /communication difficulties and, if they meet eligibility criteria, can be provided with services to help them towards living as independently as possible in the community. This includes financial help towards the cost of assistive hearing devices through the Direct Payment Scheme.
Services provided include
- Information, advice and support
- Assessment of need
- Carer’s assessment
- Specialist equipment
- Direct Payments to purchase equipment or practical support
- Home visits where appropriate
- Signposting to other agencies
- Deaf and hearing impairment awareness guidance.
